Featured Artist – David Boyd
R. David Boyd, Jr. was born in Newnan, Georgia in 1973. He graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Illustration in 1995. In 1997, Boyd returned to his alma mater, The Heritage School, to teach middle and high school art, a position he still holds today. Additionally, Boyd and his father work together as self-syndicated editorial cartoonists with Mark Morgan, Inc.
It was in 2004 that Boyd began painting seriously. Since that time he has studied with some of the best landscape painters of our generation including Gene Costanza, Roger Dale Brown, and Scott Christensen. He is currently a member of Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society. Boyd is also an active member of the Daily Painting movement, holding membership at DailyPainters.com, DailyPaintWorks.com and DailyPainterOriginals.com. Although Boyd does not consider himself to be a landscape painter exclusively, he is an active plein air painter. Most of his large scale studio work is based on field sketches and his own photo reference. Boyd is a Southerner through and through, and a love for a simpler time is often depicted in his subject matter, through rural landscapes, rusty automobiles, and old signs.
